Project Details
Rhine Pedestrian Bridge
The project will reconstruct the Rhine Pedestrian Bridge over the Union Pacific and Amtrak mainlines. The current bridge is dilapidated, and the new bridge will enhance non-auto access to nearly 2,000 jobs, connect seniors to services, provide new transit access opportunities for residents of 120 units of low-and moderate-income housing, and improve neighborhood connectivity and safety.
Without this project, people will continue to drive short distances or unsafely cross the Union Pacific railroad tracks at grade in order to avoid the decaying bridge. New residents in the area will opt to drive rather than walk or bike to jobs, retail and community services.

The current decrepit and unsafe Rhine Street bridge needs to be replaced by crossing in good repair that will accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and people using mobility devices.
